The development objective
Concentrate the material before further treatment.
Previously mined and treated material can contain remaining gold alongside a much larger quantity of other material. FRABEN's development objective is to reduce the quantity requiring downstream treatment while retaining gold in a concentrated fraction.
The programme focuses on separation performance, gold recovery and practical operating requirements. Material characteristics and demonstrated performance determine whether the approach is suitable for a particular application.
Gold-bearing material
The starting point is material from earlier mining or processing, considered on its own characteristics.
Separation and concentration
FRABEN is being developed to produce a gold-bearing concentrate without added chemical reagents during this stage.
Downstream gold recovery
The concentrate requires subsequent treatment to recover gold. The suitable recovery method depends on the material and may use chemical reagents.
“Non-chemical” describes the separation stage, rather than the entire gold-recovery process. Application depends on material suitability, demonstrated performance, commercial assessment and applicable approvals.
Two distinct areas of work.
VAA's proposed campaign at Leary's Lament, Holleton centres on conventional vat leaching. Approvals and preparations for that campaign are progressing.
FRABEN is a separate technology-development programme. The Holleton campaign and FRABEN have different processing approaches and are described separately so that each can be understood on its own terms.
